Type of transfers

You can use several types of transfer to send your money to external accounts:

  • SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) – a pan-European network that allows you to send and receive payments in euro (€) between two cross-border bank accounts in the eurozone.
  • SWIFT – an intermediary in transactions between banks, brokerage houses, stock exchanges and other financial institutions.
  • ELIXIR (Electronic Interbank Clearing System) – used in Poland; it has the status of the Systemically Important Payment System

SEPA transfers

SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) is a pan-European network that allows you to send and receive payments in euro (€) between two cross-border bank accounts in the eurozone. With SEPA, sending money within the eurozone is as easy as making your usual domestic bank transfers.

Who can make a SEPA transfer?

The processing time for a SEPA transfer is to be completed in one business day. SEPA transfer operates on working days only.

How long does a SEPA transfer take?

How much does a SEPA transfer cost?

SEPA is the cheapest EURO transfer. The sender is charged for the transfer. The recipient receives the full amount of the transfer.

In ZEN, the amount of free SEPA transfers depends on your pricing plan.

What criteria must be met?

To qualify as a SEPA transfer, the payment must meet all of the below criteria:

  • transaction currency must be EURO
  • the recipient bank’s country must be one of the EU countries or Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland
  • the recipient’s bank must participate in the SEPA system
  • the receiver’s account number must be provided
  • the normal payment method must be selected.

How does a SEPA transfer work?

Outgoing transfer

When making an outgoing transfer, you should:

  • add recipient details,
  • enter all the necessary information,
  • confirm sending the SEPA transfer.

The funds will then be blocked on your ZEN account until the transaction details are verified by the anti-money laundering (AML) team.

When the transfer is approved by the AML team, your funds are transferred to the technical account with transactions status as „In Progress”. Next, Probanx (our provider) accepts the payment message and sends back the confirmation. The payment is then forwarded by Probanx to BOL where it waits for the nearest settlement session. The status of payments is then changed to „Settled”.

Incoming transfer

ZEN receives the notification from Probanx about an awaiting transaction. At that time, the transaction is created in our system with the “In progress” status. Next, the transaction details details are verified by the AML team.

Just as in the case of outgoing transfers, you do not receive information about the AML verification. You only receive information about the incoming transfer after it has been approved. Then, your ZEN account is credited and the transaction status changes to “Settled”.

SWIFT transfers

SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) was founded in 1973, as an international association of financial institutions that maintains a telecommunications network for the exchange of information. Each SWIFT participant has their own BIC (Bank Identifier Code). SWIFT acts as an intermediary in transactions between banks, brokerage houses, stock exchanges, and other financial institutions.

SWIFT transfer is a transfer between financial institutions that are members of the SWIFT association.

For a SWIFT payment to be processed by ZEN, all of the following criteria must be met:

  • the correct beneficiary’s account number was provided
  • the recipient’s bank has a BIC code
  • the beneficiary of the transaction is from the country accepted by our provider*.

* See the full list of the permitted countries in our ZEN Terms & Conditions.

SWIFT transfers can be made in 33 currencies and are processed only on working days according to the cut-off times* shown below.

ZEN clients receive an individual multi-currency global IBAN number for global deposits, one for all currencies.

Example: GB43TCCL12345607271242

In ZEN, the transfer can be sent in two payment models:

  • SHA payment model in which the sender and the recipient both share a fee. This type of SWIFT transfer is available at ZEN for 11 currencies.

ELIXIR

ELIXIR (Electronic Interbank Clearing System) is a settlement system in Poland that has the status of the Systemically Important Payment System. It has been developed and processed by National Clearing House. Since 1994, it enables the execution of transfers, direct debits, and cheques in PLN.
